South Carroll wrestling still perfect thanks to late push

CMSportsNet winter high school sports recap from Jan. 25, 2022.

Manchester Valley hosted South Carroll in a pivotal Carroll County Athletic League wrestling match, one that came down to the final bout before deciding a team winner in 2020 and 2021.

The latest chapter was hotly contested, but not quite as close.

The Cavaliers reeled off the final six wins of the match en route to a 44-27 win to remain undefeated in the 2021-22 season. South Carroll improved to 17-0 and 4-0 in the CCAL, one win away from capturing a third consecutive county championship.

The Cavs got pins form Evan Owen (106 pounds), Ryan Athey (120), Michael Pizzuto (126), Anthony Bond (138), and Gage Owen (145), whose six team points gave the visiting team a 30-27 lead it wouldn't relinquish.

The Mavericks (25-8, 3-1) picked up pins from Vinson Smith (195), Kobe Pennewell (285), and Lee Seipp (132).
