Patron Member Coordinator/Multimedia Content Producer

SCHEDULE:

This position is temporary full-time, non-exempt. The schedule is 40 hours per week and requires flexibility for possible evening and weekend projects.

The Community Media Center of Carroll County is a non-profit community media access center serving Carroll County and the surrounding area. The mission of Community Media Center is to provide Carroll County residents and organizations with services, tools, training and access to innovative digital technologies that engage, inform and connect them to their community. Founded in 1989, the CMC is a nationally recognized Community Media Center focusing on access to media and technology and the creation of local content for cable and digital media platforms. The CMC offers an array of services including outreach, training, production facilitation, production/creative and digital distribution. Our primary objective is to increase the amount of local content by, for and about the Central Maryland region.

The Position

We are looking for a creative and motivated individual who is capable of thriving while handling multiple duties related to training and customer service, video editing and live streaming of events. The candidate must have a deep commitment to the First Amendment and the values and principles of public access to media. The challenge of the role is to be able to transition from working to maintain a patron membership base and develop patron members’ skills to editing news or sports video either alone or in tandem with an editor or patron member, to successfully live streaming remote meetings or sporting events to our website, social media and our cable channels either alone or with CMC  staff members – perhaps all in the same day. Establish and maintain a reporting process to update staff managers on the status of projects, initiatives and accomplishments. You will be expected to learn, practice, apply and model the principles and techniques of interpersonal relations of the BehavioralOS system. This position requires flexible working hours including evenings, weekends. This position reports to the Managing Editor of Digital Content.

Typical Duties

  • Develop, recruit and expand a public patron service (patron members) focused on public access to media, DIY media makers and volunteers.
  • Create connections with career and tech programs, local colleges and high schools and local media makers community.
  • Maintain current patron member contacts and all pertinent records, including updating patron member information in CMC database and developing reports of monthly performance indicators.
  • Train, consult and advise patron members on basic production equipment, concepts and workplace practices as well as media literacy, community media and professionalism.
  • Communicate with CMC patron members to coordinate new project proposals, equipment reservations, project timelines, patron membership expiration, workshops, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Develop, schedule and conduct instructional workshops for patron members, interns and volunteers on basic production techniques. This includes orientations or other onboarding and retention activities.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop outreach, publicity materials for workshops, and patron member services and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to schedule, place and maintain video assets on video servers and social media platforms.
  • Edit and produce content on any and all of CMC’s projects or productions, independently and in tandem with editors.
  • Setup and operate production equipment for CMC events, studio and field productions.
  • Cover municipal events, notably public meetings, typically remotely from the CMC. 
  • Assist in editing/streaming training of content producers, casual staffers.

Essential Education and Experience

  • HS Diploma plus AA Degree, plus two years of related professional experience.
  • Additional education in broadcast, film or digital media production can be substituted for practical work experience on a year for year basis.
  • Minimum of two years experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud or Final Cut Pro.
  • Experience with high contact customer service or member services.
  • Experience as teaching assistant or instructor.
  • High degree of proficiency with software applications including Google Suite or MS Office.
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple and potentially simultaneous requests for services and projects while consistently delivering within established deadlines.
  • Ability to take direction and follow instructions.
  • Ability to manage time and assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.

Desirable Education and Experience

  • BA degree or higher in broadcast, film or digital media production
  • Prior experience in video production, working with Adobe Creative Suite, or other digital creative tools including software programs such as Final Cut Pro. 
  • Professional communication and public relation skills.
  • Skilled with video/audio/computer systems, routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
  • Experience with LMS such as Google Classroom, Moodle, TalentLMS or equivalent.
  • Experience with CMS such as Salesforce, Neon or equivalent.
  • Experience with social media content creation, distribution and management.

The Position

Technical oversight of all audio video systems.  Works with other team members to address technical, repair, and maintenance issues.  Maintain a reporting process to update staff managers on all repair and maintenance timelines and costs. Make budget recommendations for upgrading capital equipment. Enters and updates database tracking systems to efficiently report on all inventory status. Responsible for inventory base, research of new replacement A/V and related equipment and future systems to provide new services. Ensure equipment inventory is in good working order and with sufficient inventory to be utilized by users. This position is essential staff requiring irregular hours including night, weekends and overtime and during inclement weather. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Typical Duties

  • Operate, maintain, configure and support WEB streaming systems including encoding and decoding consistent with designs and parameters established in coordination with IT Administrator,
  • Develop and manage database systems to efficiently collect, manage, distribute, report and administer data, on equipment inventory and status,
  • Propose and in coordination with the IT Administrator install A/V computer software and firmware updates,
  • Collect and maintain facility statistics; generate quarterly reports, and annual inventory report,
  • Analyze equipment needs, future trends and make budget recommendations,
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor equipment and systems problems,
  • Propose and coordinate contractual vendors to install, update, and/or repair systems and equipment,
  • Assist with special events coverage or studio productions as needed,
  • Act as emergency contact liaison to Carroll County Government, Carroll County Public Schools and Carroll Community College while monitoring and supporting PEG channel(s) distribution,
  • During inclement weather and states of emergency, be available to provide assistance as directed,
  • Monitor and maintain video production equipment used by volunteers, patron members, and staff.
  • Order, update, and install new equipment software or hardware for media production or staff operations
  • Keep records of equipment orders, and monitor/update any purchases on the CMC equipment budget
  • Organize and maintain all audio/video and related equipment inventory
  • Oversight and management of the equipment room, and backup staff for equipment check out/return
  • Propose, design, research and evaluate system designs including proof of concepts and proof of performance
  • Document and develop operation protocols, equipment setup and configuration for successful independent use by staff, volunteers and patron members.
  • Collaborate with assigned staff on special projects or outside consultants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or five years of experience in audio or video production related fields.  At least two years of direct experience coordinating or implementing complex projects.  Two years of experience and proficient knowledge of video and audio production and broadcasting equipment engineering.

  • Excellent communication, organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple and potentially simultaneous requests for services and projects while consistently delivering within established deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of audio/video signal flow, analog to digital conversion, encoding and distribution.
  • Strong project coordination, project management and writing skills. Must be able to develop project proposals and budgets.

Desirable Education and Experience

Five years prior experience in audio and video production and with broadcast systems.

POSITION: Multimedia Content Producer

OVERVIEW:  This position produces, and readies media including text, audio, video, and still images on multiple platforms for emerging technologies such as wireless media, downloadable audio, video, and audio-visual broadcasts.  Must be 21 years of age or older, have a valid driver license and clear driving record.  Position is designated as a casual worker less than part time and requires 5 or more working hours per month.   

HOURLY RATE:  $15.00

STANDARD HOURS:  Less than part time, on demand schedule 

BENEFITS:  Non benefited position

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in media production, broadcast, communications or related field; 1 or more years’ employment/experience in television production, including familiarity with studio and field production equipment.
