CMC Welcomes New Development Coordinator

Westminster Md. (August 5, 2019) – The Community Media Center (CMC) is pleased to welcome Jean Burgess as the organization’s Development Coordinator. In this newly created position, Jean will be working on opportunities to increase funding including; underwriting, sponsorships, business development, earned revenue and grant writing.

Jean Burgess recently served as the Business Development and Marketing Manager for NoWorriesIT in Westminster, Maryland, coordinating all aspects of social media outreach, new product/service marketing campaigns, newsletter and blog writing and business networking and relationship development. Prior to her marketing work in the IT industry, Jean taught Theatre and Speech Communications on both the college and secondary levels at Carroll Community College, McDaniel College, and Winters Mills High School among other academic institutions. She is an author of a new book published by Routledge/Francis & Taylor.

Jean said, “I can’t wait to explore the many ways CMC is not only serving as a conduit for the citizens of Carroll County, but also the new opportunities we are developing to help local companies promote their businesses.”

The development coordinator position was created as part of the CMC operational plan in response to long-term goals established by the CMC Board of Directors. The Board identified the need to diversify the media center’s funding and the Development Coordinator is a key position to help grow the organization and provide for more stable and sustainable financial resources to continue to serve our community.

“Since our founding in 1989, the CMC has relied upon fees on cable TV to support our operations. As a nonprofit we need to diversify because cable customers are cutting the cord” said CMC Executive Director, Richard Turner. “CMC produces engaging local content and businesses can benefit from that exposure while supporting the community. I’m excited about Jean joining our team in this new role and the rich experience and contacts she will bring as we start this new chapter”

CMSportsNet, the Community Media Center’s latest project, brings coverage of local sports to screens throughout Carroll County. The program launched in September 2018 with coverage limited to Westminster and Winters Mills high school football games and an end of season wrap-up show. In the spring, CMSportsNet expanded its scope, following Westminster’s boys and girls lacrosse teams all the way to the State Championships. This fall, CMSportsNet plans to once again expand coverage to include Westminster Varsity Football, Girls Varsity Soccer and Carroll Lynx soccer. Developing community partners and supporters will be a key factor in the success of this ambitious new initiative. As Development Coordinator, Jean will become the main contact for potential partners and supporters interested in being a part of this exciting, new community programming.
