A long time coming for FSK girls basketball

CMSportsNet winter high school sports roundup for Jan. 19, 2022.

Francis Scott Key's girls basketball county championship in 2019 must feel like it happened ages ago for the Eagles program, which hadn't won a Carroll County Athletic League contest since that title year before Wednesday.

That's when FSK hosted South Carroll and came away with a 43-26 victory, ending that long drought against county opponents.

The Eagles improved to 7-5 overall, 1-3 in the CCAL with the win. Summer Brooks led the way with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Ally Mathias pitched in with eight boards, six points, two assists, and two blocks. And Rayna Miller had five points, two blocks, and two steals.

Shannon McTavish and Kailyn Irwin had six points apiece for the Cavaliers, who fell to 3-8, 1-4.
