Jess Littlejohn leading Liberty girls hoops

The Lions senior guard is helping her team get back on a winning track as the 2021-22 regular season winds down.

Liberty spent most of January trying to figure things out, and a Carroll County Athletic League girls basketball title was out of focus. The Lions played six games last month and went 1-5, and were mired in a six-game slide counting a holiday tournament game from late December.

Things have been different in February, led by senior guard Jess Littlejohn. Liberty's latest win took place Feb. 8 on the road against Westminster, a 47-39 victory that was sparked by a game-high 24 points form Littlejohn and a solid defensive effort.

Jenna Liska added 14 rebounds and 10 points, and Littlejohn posted five assists and five steals. Maddi Haggerty pulled down six rebounds, and Liska added seven assists and three steals.

Check out the postgame interview we did with Littlejohn, whose team won its fourth straight game and improved to 10-7, 5-4 in the CCAL.

Westminster (12-4, 7-2) had its four-game win streak halted despite 19 points from Abby Kindle and six steals from Kylie McWilliams. But the Owls are very much alive in the county championship hunt.

They have yet to play first-place Manchester Valley (17-1, 9-1), and get the Mavericks twice in the final week of the regular season. Man Valley hosts the first game Feb. 16, and Westminster gets the second on Feb. 21.
