The CMC invited Carroll's nonprofits to be part of this live holiday tradition on Friday, December 5 between 10 am and 6 pm. This was their opportunity to tell people about particular holiday events, solicit volunteer help, and/or donations for specific projects. Click here for more information.
The Carroll County History Project Premiere - October 2008
The CMC unveiled the three-part Carroll County History Project at the Carroll Arts Center. Speakers included Dr. Debra Johnson-Ross from McDaniel College, independent film maker Leo Eaton of Eaton Creative and Jean Lewis, Chair of the Carroll County NAACP, introduced the project and made presentations on the importance of capturing oral history.
Personal interviews with local residents showed a glimpse of life in "the old days" through the Carroll County Remembers Project, a collection of oral histories fashioned after National Public Radio's StoryCorps. In a similar vein, Carroll County: Through the Eyes of the Black Experience relayed personal histories from the perspective of minority residents. Guests will also got a preview of the new documentary Carroll County's Legacy created by MPT producer Marilyn Maguire.
Westminster's 141st Memorial Day Parade and Exercises at the Westminster Cemetery CMC cameras were there to cover and document this historical event. Click here for photos from this year's event.
Carroll County: Through the Eyes of the Black Experience Symposium - May 2008
The CMC partnered with the Carroll County NAACP, Carroll County Human Relations Commission and the Carroll County Public Library to preserve local black history through memories and stories of the county's African American residents. The symposium on May 3rd highlighted the importance of sustaining history and demonstrated just how that can be done. Various sessions on genealogy, preserving historical artifacts and searching your family's history were held. There was also time for those interested in sharing their stories. CMC Looks to the Future with Strategic Planning - May 2008
The Board of the Community Media Center of Carroll County ("CMC") engages in a strategic planning process every 3 to 5 years. To assist in current strategic planning cycle, the Board retained Columbia Telecommunications Corporation ("CTC") to conduct interviews and provide a study reporting on the needs and desires of important County Stakeholders ("Stakeholders"). The report's goal was to assist in the development of a strategic vision for CMC's future in light of rapidly changing technological and regulatory environments. The final report has been received and the Board is in the process of developing strategic initiatives based thereon.
