Municipal Tree Lighting Events

All across Carroll County, local municipalities are kicking off the holidays with their Annual Tree Lighting Ceremonies. Every community celebrates in their own unique way and the Community Media Center was there to capture the spirit of the Holidays!

Town of Taneytown

Taneytown welcomes in the holiday season with their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. This year’s event featured two local choirs. Silver Oak Academy provided hot chocolate and cookies and Relay for Life held their glow stick ceremony. The highlight of the event was the countdown to the lighting of the tree and of course, a visit from Santa Claus!

Town of New Windsor

Holiday wishes from the Town of New Windsor.  Mayor Neal Roop welcomed residents to the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.  The evening was filled with music and lights. Soloist Catalina Custen performed several holiday selections and then the countdown to the tree lighting began.  The candlelight event brought the community together as residents shared what they love most about the holidays in their hometown.

Town of Mt. Airy

Mayor Patrick Rockinberg welcomed visitors to Mt. Airy’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.  Carolers from Mt. Airy Middle School set the mood with a selection of holiday favorites and Santa arrived via firetruck to visit with the children.  The Railroad Museum had a wonderful train display and there was even a mini train running thru town for the kiddies to enjoy.

Town of  Sykesville

The Town of Sykesville delivered a train full of holiday cheer at the annual Tree Lighting ceremony. The post office was open with homemade cookies for all, and a special box to drop off those important letters to Santa. Before collecting his mail, Santa Claus spent time talking with the children and enjoying the beautiful holiday train display that celebrates Sykesvilles history so well that even the Grinch had to smile!

Town of Union Bridge

The Town of Union Bridge rings in the holidays with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Students from the Elmer Wolf school performed, delighting everyone with traditional carols and a hand bell performance.  The jolly man himself, Santa Claus paid a visit and led the children in song.

Town of Hampstead

The annual Hampstead Christmas Tree Lighting always draws a big crowd. This years celebration featured Christmas carols sung by Cub Scout Pack 791 and the Spring Garden Elementary School’s  Instrumental Ensemble performing holiday favorites. Attendees were encouraged to donate to NESAP’s foodbank and thrift store and St. Johns Church served as the sight for the Christmas edition of the Farmer’s Market. The highlight of the evening was the arrival of Santa Claus and the lighting of the town Christmas tree.

Town of Manchester

Manchester rings in the holiday season with their Annual Christmas Tree lighting. Santa arrives by firetruck and visits with children at the Manchester VFD.  Folks looking for that perfect holiday gift visited local shops and  the town’s activities building was the site of a holiday craft fair where local vendors and businesses offered a variety of gift ideas.
