Diabetes Self-Management Workshops @ Carroll Hospital - Tevis Center for Wellness

Join a FREE 2 ½ hour workshop, held weekly for 6 weeks for adults with diabetes, pre-diabetes, or who live with someone that does. Many have learned the self-management approach and lowered their blood sugar, made fewer ER trips, and were less likely to end up in the hospital because of diabetes. These workshops don’t replace your diabetes treatment plan, but instead teaches you the best ways to work with your doctor and family, and helps you set your own goals for managing your diabetes. Sponsored by Carroll County Bureau of Aging & Disabilities.

In conjunction with McDaniel College’s 150th anniversary celebration, this timeline exhibit highlights each decade of the college’s 150-year history.

Founded in 1867 as the first coeducational college south of the Mason-Dixon Line, McDaniel was formerly known as Western Maryland College, possibly suggested by John Smith, president of the Western Maryland railroad. In 2002, the college was renamed for William Roberts McDaniel in honor of his 65-year association with the college as a student, professor, administrator and trustee.

This event is faith-based, and a sweet, connecting experience for moms and their tween daughters (ages 7-12). The two-and-a-half-hour, high-energy event features, live music, incredible balloon sculptures, beach ball competitions, mother/daughter conversation time & colorful confetti cannons. For the first time ever, mothers and daughters will walk the runway together in an all new “Who Expressed It Best” mother/daughter fashion show that demonstrates modesty. The Flower and Jazz Festival is an annual event held in Downtown Westminster the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Main Street will be filled with Craft/Commercial Vendors, Delectable Food Vendors and Nursery/Flower Vendors. It is a great event for the entire family with special appeal to moms, grandmothers, sisters and daughters.

Flower and Jazz 5K Information: The Flower and Jazz 5K race is in it’s 18th year!  NEW!  This year’s 5K will be at the former Wakefield Valley Golf Course.  The 5K event benefits Carroll County Youth Service Bureau and Boys and Girls Club of Westminster.

World War II in Gettysburg: The People and Places @ Gettysburg Tour Center

Saturdays only, March 24 through June 2, 2018.  This 2-hour tour explores little-known sites in historic Gettysburg: prisoner-of-war camps, an Army intelligence camp on the battlefield, and the Navy’s secret map-making service. Tour guides share stories of World War II leaders Churchill, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, de Gaulle, as well as the civilian experiences of war-time Gettysburg. Tour guides share stories of World War II leaders Churchill, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, de Gaulle, as well as the civilian experiences of war-time Gettysburg.
