Founded in 1867 as the first coeducational college south of the Mason-Dixon Line, McDaniel was formerly known as Western Maryland College, possibly suggested by John Smith, president of the Western Maryland railroad. In 2002, the college was renamed for William Roberts McDaniel in honor of his 65-year association with the college as a student, professor, administrator and trustee.

World War II in Gettysburg: The People and Places @ Gettysburg Tour Center

Saturdays only, March 24 through June 2, 2018.  This 2-hour tour explores little-known sites in historic Gettysburg: prisoner-of-war camps, an Army intelligence camp on the battlefield, and the Navy’s secret map-making service. Tour guides share stories of World War II leaders Churchill, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, de Gaulle, as well as the civilian experiences of war-time Gettysburg. This annual concert features The Madrigal Singers, McDaniel’s premier a cappella vocal ensemble, under the direction of Margaret Boudreaux, director of choral activities at McDaniel. The Madrigal Singers perform unaccompanied vocal music, primarily Renaissance pieces, but also world music and vocal jazz. Audience participation is encouraged.

May 4 – 6, 2018.  The Homestead comes alive each spring with a beautiful array of quality, locally grown hanging plants, annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, shrubs, and heirloom vegetables. Come join us for our first event of the season, with a great selection of plants, specialty plant growers, and quality craft and garden-related vendors.    On Friday, May 4 from 11am – 4 pm, we are open for early-bird selections, with specialty growers and vendors. Kountry Kafe Catering will have a lite lunch menu available for purchase.

During May and June, Off Track Art is delighted to present the paintings of Shelley Steinle. From her studio in the woods, Shelley portrays “creatures of wondrous design” from original photographs in her own backyard or other environments. Her goal is to share her observations and the joy she experiences in viewing and painting–even the tiniest of creatures.

Shelley is a third-generation artist and since age 3, a resident of Carroll County. She has a fine arts degree from Lycoming College and her work has been exhibited in various Maryland venues. She also studied with Richard Eichman and Ed Ramsburg. Her work ranges from pen and ink commissions of historic buildings, wildlife portraits, and abstract paintings.

Join us fo opening night, Saturday, May 12th 5pm-7pm.

The Ascension Country Breakfast is held on the first Saturday of every month. Come hungry, leave full. Called the best in Carroll County by many of our customers, a full all-you-can-eat breakfast menu including pancakes, Hahn sausage, scrambled eggs, hashed brown potatoes, egg and ham casserole, sausage gravy and biscuits, creamed chipped beef, assorted fruit, assorted pastries, fresh brewed coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, milk, and juices all at an affordable price. Plenty of parking in the lot behind the church off Ralph St.

This year’s annual spring encampment depicts the Battle of Chancellorsville.  Activities include  a Civil War hospital, daily life in the camps and a reenactment of this historic campaign. May 4 – 6, 2018.  The Homestead comes alive each spring with a beautiful array of quality, locally grown hanging plants, annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, shrubs, and heirloom vegetables. Come join us for our first event of the season, with a great selection of plants, specialty plant growers, and quality craft and garden-related vendors.    On Friday, May 4 from 11am – 4 pm, we are open for early-bird selections, with specialty growers and vendors. Kountry Kafe Catering will have a lite lunch menu available for purchase.
On Saturday, May 5 from 9am – 4pm & Sunday, May 6, 10am – 4pm, we will feature our full flower and plant selections. Lunch will be available for purchase and the Historic Shriver House and Grist Mill will be open for tours. The Blacksmith Shop and Gift Shop will also be open.

During May and June, Off Track Art is delighted to present the paintings of Shelley Steinle. From her studio in the woods, Shelley portrays “creatures of wondrous design” from original photographs in her own backyard or other environments. Her goal is to share her observations and the joy she experiences in viewing and painting–even the tiniest of creatures.

Shelley is a third-generation artist and since age 3, a resident of Carroll County. She has a fine arts degree from Lycoming College and her work has been exhibited in various Maryland venues. She also studied with Richard Eichman and Ed Ramsburg. Her work ranges from pen and ink commissions of historic buildings, wildlife portraits, and abstract paintings.

Join us fo opening night, Saturday, May 12th 5pm-7pm.

Flower and Jazz 5K and Festival @ Historic Downtown Westminster

The Flower and Jazz Festival is an annual event held in Downtown Westminster the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Main Street will be filled with Craft/Commercial Vendors, Delectable Food Vendors and Nursery/Flower Vendors. It is a great event for the entire family with special appeal to moms, grandmothers, sisters and daughters.

Flower and Jazz 5K Information: The Flower and Jazz 5K race is in it’s 18th year!  NEW!  This year’s 5K will be at the former Wakefield Valley Golf Course.  The 5K event benefits Carroll County Youth Service Bureau and Boys and Girls Club of Westminster.
