Rice Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am–4pm, and Saturday, noon–5pm.

Off Track Art is featuring new Associate Partner Bev Mey in a one woman show. Bev is a local artist who paints landscapes and still lifes in oil. Her show runs from March 1 through – April 29 with an opening reception March 10th from 4-6pm coordinating with Second Saturdays in downtown Westminster. Bev has been painting in oils for many years. Her work represents the beauty of nature.

Creating abstract acrylic paintings by pouring is one of the most enjoyable art creation techniques. The two-hour workshop will consist of a discussion of materials, demonstrations of a couple basic techniques, followed by the chance for each participant to create small paintings to take home. February 28 – March 3, 2018.  McDaniel’s Department of Theatre Arts presents a student-directed play festival featuring short plays directed by McDaniel seniors Bryan Bowen of North Beach, Md., and Brandon Richards of Huntingtown, Md. Bowen directs David Ives’s “Sure Thing,” “Variations on the Death of Trotsky,” “English Made Simple” and “The Other Woman.” Richards directs four short plays from the collection “Trepidation Nation,” including “Down to Sleep” by Victoria Stewart, “I Am Not Alone” by Richard Dresser, “Euxious” by Bridget Carpenter and “Yes” by Stephen Belber.

Carroll Community College Kicks off the Penguin Random House Book Fair with Melanie Benjamin

Spend the evening with The New York Times bestselling author of The Aviator’s Wife, The Swans of Fifth Avenue, The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb, and Alice I Have Been.

Tickets are $25 and include a copy of The Girls in the Picture, a $5 Penguin Random House Book Fair coupon, and access to the event reception.

Bestselling author Melanie Benjamin will talk about her latest book, The Girls in the Picture, which focuses on the friendship and creative partnership between two of Hollywood’s earliest female legends—screenwriter Frances Marion and superstar Mary Pickford. The author talk will begin at 7pm followed by a Q&A and book signing. Additional titles by Benjamin will be available for purchase before the event and during the book signing.

The Ascension Country Breakfast is held on the first Saturday of every month. Come hungry, leave full. Called the best in Carroll County by many of our customers, a full all-you-can-eat breakfast menu including pancakes, Hahn sausage, scrambled eggs, hashed brown potatoes, egg and ham casserole, sausage gravy and biscuits, creamed chipped beef, assorted fruit, assorted pastries, fresh brewed coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, milk, and juices all at an affordable price. McDaniel College’s Evelyn Mackenzie Performance Series highlights a diverse selection of post-1800 piano works by women composers in honor of Women’s History Month. Original works by composers Sabrina Clarke, a 2010 McDaniel alumna, as well as Krystal Folkestad-Grant and Anne Neikirk, will be performed.

Off Track Art is featuring new Associate Partner Bev Mey in a one woman show. Bev is a local artist who paints landscapes and still lifes in oil. Her show runs from March 1 through – April 29 with an opening reception March 10th from 4-6pm coordinating with Second Saturdays in downtown Westminster. Bev has been painting in oils for many years. Her work represents the beauty of nature.

This class in the Hatha Yoga tradition is suitable for many different levels and abilities. Therapeutic elements of yoga will be included. The class ends with a deep relaxation Yoga Nidra. Chamber Music on the Hill, in residence at McDaniel College, showcases McDaniel College music faculty members performing a variety of musical styles and works, including solos, duets and ensembles.

Faculty include senior lecturers Linda Kirkpatrick on flute and David Kreider on piano, as well as adjunct faculty members David Duree on clarinet; Lynne Griffith on rench horn; pianist Don Horneff; percussionist Mark Lortz; oboist Melinda Niles; bassoonist Robert Sirois; drummer Jon Seligman; and bassist Alex Weber.

McDaniel College’s art and art history honors students show their work in a variety of media.  Students featuring their works are seniors Caitlin Eversmier of Cockeysville, Md., Rachel Wojnar of Cumberland, Md., and junior Monique Staveley of Sykesville, Md.

Rice Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am–4pm, and Saturday, noon–5pm.

The Monday Night Music series presents adjunct faculty member Nick Reider on trumpet. Reider has been performing and teaching trumpet in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., area for the past 17 years. He has been a featured soloist in the Westminster Symphony Orchestra and the Carroll County Jazz Ensemble, and has performed with Grammy Award winning artists The Isley Brothers and The B-52s.

The screening, for preschool-aged children, will test for nearsightedness, farsightedness, unequal focusing, and differences in the power of the eyes.
