Paintings, sculpture, metalsmithing, illustration, ceramic art and photography are on display by current and former McDaniel faculty members, including Steven Pearson, Linda Van Hart, Ken Hankins, Walter P. Calahan, Susan Ruddick Bloom and Wasyl Palijczuk, and alumni Ellen Elmes, Jessica Boehman, Aaron Heisler, Dan Glusman, Bobby Coleman and Colin Donnelly, as well as Chloe Watson Irla, a 2007 alumna who is an assistant professor at the college. *Reception: Thursday, Feb. 1, 5:30–7:30pm.

With the brutal “help” of five Party Members, Winston is forced to confess his Thoughtcrimes before an unseen inquisitor, and the audience – which acts as a silent witness to his torture.   Intended for mature audiences.

The Monday Night Music series presents adjunct lecturer David Duree on clarinet and saxophone and senior lecturer Linda Kirkpatrick on flute. Duree performs with the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, Hood Chamber Players, MISTRAL Woodwind Quintet and the Dumale Trio. He has recorded for Centaur Records. Kirkpatrick has been a member of the National Flute Association Professional Flute Choir and is currently the director of Flute Cocktail, a 20-piece flute choir based in Columbia, Md., formed as an outgrowth of the Columbia Concert Band.

Bowen directs David Ives’s “Sure Thing,” “Variations on the Death of Trotsky,” “English Made Simple” and “The Other Woman.” Richards directs four short plays from the collection “Trepidation Nation,” including “Down to Sleep” by Victoria Stewart, “I Am Not Alone” by Richard Dresser, “Euxious” by Bridget Carpenter and “Yes” by Stephen Belber.

Her work represents the beauty of nature.

Carroll Community College Kicks off the Penguin Random House Book Fair with Melanie Benjamin

Spend the evening with The New York Times bestselling author of The Aviator’s Wife, The Swans of Fifth Avenue, The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb, and Alice I Have Been.

Tickets are $25 and include a copy of The Girls in the Picture, a $5 Penguin Random House Book Fair coupon, and access to the event reception.

Bestselling author Melanie Benjamin will talk about her latest book, The Girls in the Picture, which focuses on the friendship and creative partnership between two of Hollywood’s earliest female legends—screenwriter Frances Marion and superstar Mary Pickford. The author talk will begin at 7pm followed by a Q&A and book signing. Additional titles by Benjamin will be available for purchase before the event and during the book signing.

Ticket holders are invited to come early for hors d’oeuvres and refreshments starting at 6pm.

Each attendee will receive a special $5 off coupon to be used Friday or Saturday at the Penguin Random House Book Fair. Come at 6pm and shop in the Babylon Great Hall or use your coupon on Saturday! Attendees will receive coupon at event check in on 3/2.

The Ascension Country Breakfast is held on the first Saturday of every month. Come hungry, leave full. Called the best in Carroll County by many of our customers, a full all-you-can-eat breakfast menu including pancakes, Hahn sausage, scrambled eggs, hashed brown potatoes, egg and ham casserole, sausage gravy and biscuits, creamed chipped beef, assorted fruit, assorted pastries, fresh brewed coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, milk, and juices all at an affordable price. Chamber Music on the Hill, in residence at McDaniel College, showcases McDaniel College music faculty members performing a variety of musical styles and works, including solos, duets and ensembles.

Faculty include senior lecturers Linda Kirkpatrick on flute and David Kreider on piano, as well as adjunct faculty members David Duree on clarinet; Lynne Griffith on rench horn; pianist Don Horneff; percussionist Mark Lortz; oboist Melinda Niles; bassoonist Robert Sirois; drummer Jon Seligman; and bassist Alex Weber.

The Monday Night Music series presents adjunct faculty member Nick Reider on trumpet. Reider has been performing and teaching trumpet in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., area for the past 17 years. He has been a featured soloist in the Westminster Symphony Orchestra and the Carroll County Jazz Ensemble, and has performed with Grammy Award winning artists The Isley Brothers and The B-52s.

Casey on their subject of expertise. Quinn and Salamandra are co-founders of Corporate Brokers, a staffing solutions company with offices in several states.

Peter Mulvey has been a touring singer/songwriter for twenty years releasing well over a dozen records. In addition to playing shows from Anchorage to the Hague, from Santa Monica to Belfast. Peter Mulvey is an American folk singer-songwriter based in Milwaukee, WI. Since the early 1990s he has developed a strong national following in the indie folk/rock scene through his relentless touring and critically acclaimed albums.
