Come and enjoy American music of the colonial era up through 1812 by renowned specialists David & Ginger Hildebrand. David & Ginger will recreate the patriotic songs, ballads, marches, dance tunes and theater songs popular in early Maryland. Authentic and reproduction instruments, including the violin, Baroque guitar, English guitar, hammered dulcimer, harpsichord, and the English flute will be featured at this event.

In appropriate time period costumes, the Hildebrands will bring their musical and historical expertise to what promises to be both an entertaining and educational afternoon! Celebrate local history with the Historical Society and fellow Carroll Countians with cupcakes and good company.

McDaniel music lecturer Alice Tung and her husband, James Tung, perform viola and violin duets by Mozart, Martinu and John Williams during Monday Night Music. In addition to McDaniel, Alice Tung teaches at Carroll Community College. James Tung is an adjunct professor at Mount St. Mary’s University. The Tungs also direct the Urbana School for Strings.

Siriki Diabate, who was a journalist before being forced to flee the Ivory Coast in 2005 after being threatened because of his reporting in opposition of the government, speaks about his experience immigrating to the United States. Diabate became a naturalized United States citizen in 2013 and earned both a bachelor’s degree in political science and international studies in 2014 and a master’s degree in business administration in 2016 from Shepherd University in WV.

February 2 & 3, 2018.  McDaniel College students perform Eve Ensler’s iconic play, “The Vagina Monologues.” Directed by McDaniel senior Megan Smith of Federalsburg, Md., the performance is in association with V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls.

All proceeds benefit Rape Crisis Intervention Services of Carroll County, Family and Children’s Services of Central Maryland and the One Billion Rising Foundation.

The Ascension Country Breakfast is held on the first Saturday of every month. Come hungry, leave full. Called the best in Carroll County by many of our customers, a full all-you-can-eat breakfast menu including pancakes, Hahn sausage, scrambled eggs, hashed brown potatoes, egg and ham casserole, sausage gravy and biscuits, creamed chipped beef, assorted fruit, assorted pastries, fresh brewed coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, milk, and juices all at an affordable price. Plenty of parking in the lot behind the church off Ralph St.
