This annual concert features The Madrigal Singers, McDaniel’s premier a cappella vocal ensemble, under the direction of Margaret Boudreaux, director of choral activities at McDaniel. The Madrigal Singers perform unaccompanied vocal music, primarily Renaissance pieces, but also world music and vocal jazz. Audience participation is encouraged.

Tret Fure began her career at the age of 16, singing in coffeehouses and campuses in the Midwest. At 19, she moved to LA in hopes of obtaining a record deal. Within a year she was performing as guitarist and vocalist for Spencer Davis, touring with him and penning the single for his album “Mousetrap.” She went on to record her own album in 1973 on MCA/UNI Records, with the late Lowell George of Little Feat as her producer. With the success of that release, she opened for such bands as Yes, Poco, and the J Geils Band. One of the most prolific artists in the contemporary singer-songwriter arena, Tret Fure has released 15 albums and CDs over the course of her 46 year career. In addition to being a gifted songwriter, Fure has engineered and produced countless recordings by a variety of artists, including her own work.  Tickets call: 410-795-1041.

The Ascension Country Breakfast is held on the first Saturday of every month. Come hungry, leave full. Called the best in Carroll County by many of our customers, a full all-you-can-eat breakfast menu including pancakes, Hahn sausage, scrambled eggs, hashed brown potatoes, egg and ham casserole, sausage gravy and biscuits, creamed chipped beef, assorted fruit, assorted pastries, fresh brewed coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, milk, and juices all at an affordable price. Plenty of parking in the lot behind the church off Ralph St.

The breakfast crew is always looking for more volunteers. If you would like to be involved with this monthly event that benefits the church financially, please contact the church office.

May 6 & 7, 2017.  This year’s annual spring encampment depicts the Seven Days Campaign illustrating six major battles between the Army of Northern Virginia and the Union Army of the Potomac that took place over seven days near Richmond, Virginia in 1862. The Battle of Fair Oaks, the featured battle on Saturday, set the Seven Days Campaign in motion. Other activities include a Civil War hospital, daily life in the camps and a Ladies’ Social on Saturday. Food is available for purchase at the event.

For all ages.  Experience the enthusiasm, high-energy and excitement of the Carroll County Cloggers as they demonstrate the art of clogging that came to America via English, German, Scottish, and Irish settlers.  What is clogging, you ask?  Clogging is derived from folk dances made popular in the Appalachian Mountains in the 1800s, but new influences are coming from multiple styles of dance such as tap dancing, Irish hard shoe, and even street dancing and hip-hop.

Three million photographs were taken during the war.  The majority of these photographs were still portraits of individuals or very small groups.  Uncover the major photographers.  Discuss what they did and why.  Discover some of the more famous photographs, their impact on the war and influence on history.  Debate the lessons learned from these photographers and from their work.

May 26 – July 14, 2017.  This Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit explores how work became a central element in American Culture.  It is offered in conjunction with two other exhibits on Carroll County Canneries and Carroll County’s Wormseed industry at the Carroll County Farm Museum.  Exhibit is housed in the Landon C. Burns Room.  Special exhibit hours of 9am – Noon on May 27 & June 25.  Tuesdays Noon – 4pm; Wednesdays – Fridays 10am – 4pm; and Saturdays and Sundays Noon – 4pm.

Located in the Shriver Grist Mill, the exhibit will be available as part of Union Mills’ mill tour.  Hours for Saturday and Sunday Noon to 4pm.

All are invited to the Gallery Reception on Second Saturday, June 10, 5pm – 7pm with the Artist Talk at 6pm.  Exhibit hours:  Thursday & Friday 12pm – 5pm; Saturday 10am – 5pm; and Sunday 12pm – 4pm.
